At the Top of the World: The greatest mountains on Earth (and how to climb them)

$0.00

The summit is what drives us, but the climb itself is what matters.

This is a gorgeous atlas of eight of the world’s greatest mountains on all its continents:

  • Everest - Tibet, Nepal

  • Matterhorn - Switzerland, Italy

  • Chimborazo - Ecuador

  • Fuji - Japan

  • Kilimanjaro - Tanzania

  • Denali - USA

  • Puncak Jaya - Indonesia

  • Vinson Massif - Antarctica.

Clear, accessible texts by Robin Jacobs break down the geography of each mountain, the history of its conquest, tales of local populations and indigenous mythologies, and finally, how best to climb it. The routes to the summit are explained, as well as the individual climbing challenges posed by each mountain.

An introductory chapter includes information on how the different types of mountains are formed, the history of mountain exploration, the dangers of mountaineering, key terminology, climbing gear and how to tie knots.

With dynamic, vintage-inflected illustrations by Ed J Brown (Epic Animal Journeys, Cicada 2022), this book will appeal to budding explorers and climbing enthusiasts alike.

Robin Jacobs is a British children’s television writer and author with a degree in Earth Sciences. She is the author of Earth-Shattering Events (Cicada, 2019), The Mellons Build a House (Cicada, 2023) and All About Flags (Cicada 2024).

Ed J Brown is a British illustrator and writer living in Leipzig, Germany. His striking, humour-packed illustrations have featured in Reader's Digest, Anorak Magazine and Aquila Magazine. He is the author of Epic Animal Journeys (Cicada, 2022).
